Weekly Dev Log #2

What I've been doing:

Additions

- the main thing that I've been working on during this past week is adding the new boss, "Dr. Bub".  The boss takes inspiration from the movie Day of the Dead, where Bub is an intelligent zombie that remembers some things from their old life as a human.

- I noticed that sometimes that creature would throw items to the edges of the screen, so I made it so that items bounce off of walls.

- added difficulty scaling for bosses. After you defeat a boss, it increases its difficulty level for the next time you face them. Each boss has 3 difficulty stages, and after you defeat all bosses 3 times, the final boss is unlocked.

- added heart sprites to the player's health UI to make it more noticeable that its health.

- relayed out the UI to have the player's health UI in the top left and the wave counter in the top right.

- added 6 new items (game currently has 23 items).

- added bombs which either damage monsters, the player, or both. These bombs are created from some of the items (For example, The First Aid Grenade, which spawns a bomb on the player's position, damaging monsters, after the player is hurt), or can be spawned from future monsters / bosses.

- started work on the final boss stage.

- small bug fixes

Final Boss / Completing the game

Without giving too much away, the final boss will be the Cellar Creature. After the player defeats all the bosses, they can drop into the cellar in the middle of the room, and enter the final stage. This stage will have piles of corpses from all the zombies that were fed to the creature throughout the game. The focus for this coming week will be to add the final boss, and let the player complete the game (finally). I'm still thinking of ways the game will change for after the player completes the game (for replayability). I think it would be cool to add different playable characters (with different, unique weapons) that get unlocked after the game is beaten. And/or some items/decorations that get unlocked. On top of this, the monsters could become stronger to scale the difficulty to the improved skill of the player. Right now, none of these are set in stone, but these are just some of the things that I'm considering.

What's Next

The main thing I'll be focusing on for this next week is adding the final boss. I have no idea how long this will take because this boss will be different from the previous bosses and will have double the number of attacks, but I'm hoping to finish it within the 7 days. On top of this, I want to finish getting 25 items into the game. I also need to remake the tutorial to include some new mechanics / changed old mechanics, and add more slots to the item dictionary. Adding more sounds to the game.

If you have any cool ideas for items/decorations/game mechanics/bosses/anything, leave a comment!

Note: these changes are not in the downloadable game. That game is purely a demo and will not be updated until the next large update (and it may have a price tag added to it at that point, idk)
