Weekly Dev Log

What I've been working on:

Additions

- added 7 new items

- added starting decorations to the room

- added creature events that have a chance of happening after each wave*

- started work on intro cutscene (gif is going to be first part of the cutscene)

- you can now refund items that you don't want by holding Q (same mechanic as deconstructing decorations, but instead of dropping boards, it gives you 50% progress back on the cellar door)

Bug Fixes

- simple UI bug fixes. This includes fixing the helper UI's reference position to all holdables.

- fixed the deconstruct helper UI to have the same show distance as the interact helper

- fixed magician item placing boards into the window at weird angles

- text box now changes size depending on how much text is being shown (text sometimes was too small before)

- magnet item effect now works on bosses

Creature Events*

Creature events are a new mechanic that I've been trying to add to the game to spicy up the gameplay. These events will happen in between waves, and will have a random chance of occurring. During these events, the creature will interact with you and will either help or hinder you. For example, the event that I just added is a coin flip where the creature flips a coin and depending on which side ends up on top, the creature either gives you an item or adds a debuff to you. These debuffs could be something like slowing down your movement speed, increasing your cooldown time, or increasing the zombies' movement speed. The point of these events is to spice up the gameplay, so the player isn't always just killing things, while also adding more randomness and replayability to each play through.

What's Next

The main thing that I want to have added to the game for next week is a second boss. This will let me play around with how I want bosses to be handled (either in a linear progression, or purely random), while also giving me more speed draws to put up on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCrxkXvs-YYCk6lKoZsAa0g here btw). I also plan to keep adding some more items and play around with adding more, unique creature events.

Note: these changes are not in the downloadable game. That game is purely a demo and will not be updated until the next large update (and it may have a price tag added to it at that point, idk)
